Gum Disease Treatment Chicago

Battling Bacteria to Revive Your Smile

The American Dental Association (ADA) estimates that around 42% of all adults in the U.S. aged 30 years and older have some form of gum disease. Seeking regular preventive services can mitigate the potential development and/or spread of the problem, not only preserving your smile, but also lowering your risk of other issues like heart disease, dementia, and diabetes. However, when the problem is already present or has worsened over time, we can provide targeted treatment. With scaling and root planing, laser periodontal treatment, and antibiotic treatment, we can put your smile back on the right track and help you maintain better gum health moving forward.

Scaling & Root Planing

As a conventional form of gum disease treatment, scaling and root planing is a non-surgical solution that is commonly referred to as a “deep cleaning.” This two-step process includes removing harmful plaque and bacteria from your teeth and gums before smoothing out and reshaping your tooth roots. This not only lowers the risk of future infection but also makes it harder for bacteria to accumulate. Also, it encourages the gum tissues to begin reattaching to your teeth for a stronger smile.

Laser Periodontal Treatment

Oftentimes, traditional scaling and root planing may not reach all areas of the gum pockets and effectively remove hard-to-reach bacteria. In these instances, Dr. Rosen may reach for our soft tissue diode laser to pinpoint problem areas. With its concentrated beam of light, affected and diseased tissues can be easily removed with minimal bleeding and swelling, allowing for a more comfortable and expedited recovery.

Antibiotic Treatment

Depending on the extensiveness of the gum disease, Arestin antibiotic treatment can be used to get rid of any small pockets of bacteria. When administered, the tiny particles will begin to disperse over time, targeting any remaining debris, plaque, and tartar build-up deep within the gums. What you are left with is a healthier set of teeth and gums that our team will closely monitor to ensure no future issues arise.
